In a blow for Euro favourites Spain, key player Aitana Bonmati (the most recent Ballon d’Or winner) has been hospitalised this week with viral meningitis. She was discharged on Sunday, and has rejoined the team, but it’s unclear whether she will be well enough for Spain’s first group game on Thursday.
The team is not without other talent though, with Salma Paralluelo and Alexia Putellas just two of the squad’s impressive line-up of stars. Spain hope to emulate their World Cup success under new management and continue to be the team to watch this tournament.
Making it to the semi-finals could put them up against England, who despite losing to Spain in the World Cup final two years ago, have faced them twice since coming away with a win and a loss.
England’s final match before the Euros resulted in a dominant 7-0 victory over Jamaica.
Ella Toone scored twice and Lucy Bronze, Georgia Stanway, Alessia Russo, Aggie Beever-Jones and Beth Mead all scored once as England cruised to a win. The line-up could hint to Sarina Weigman’s thoughts for England’s starting 11 for their first game on Saturday.
There has been speculation surrounding the fitness of players Lauren James and Georgia Stanway who both suffered injuries earlier this year, but in an encouraging sign they both played on Sunday, indicating that they are ready for the tournament.
England’s squad is packed full of old and new talent, Aggie Beever-Jones impressed in qualifying with 5 goals in 6 games, and Beth Mead’s performance against Jamaica looks likely to have secured her place on the starting line-up.

Wales have arrived in Switzerland after a week of training in Belgium in preparation for their opening game on Saturday against the Netherlands. Wales’ most-capped player, Jess Fishlock is part of the 23 strong squad which is made up of veterans and new talent including Sophie Ingle, Angharad James (Capt), Gemma Evans and Elise Hughes.
Wales are relishing their position as underdogs and looking forward to testing themselves against the rest of Europe. US footy legend, Brandi Chastain has endorsed the team, praising manager Rhian Wilkinson and urging the population of the principality to get behind their team!
The tournament kicks off tonight at 5pm BST between Iceland and Finland, with England and Wales both playing on Saturday at 5pm and 8pm respectively. Good luck to both teams!

The most highly anticipated highlight of British tennis is finally here! Wimbledon has opened up it’s pristine grass courts for the greatest two weeks of tennis in the grass season and there are countless names to keep an eye on in the women’s draw.
Day 1 was recorded as the hottest first day ever at Wimbledon with 32°C heat and already the British women have produced stunning results:
- Emma Raducanu defeated wildcard compatriot Mimi Xu (GBR)
- Katie Boulter defeated 9th seed Paula Badosa (ESP)
- Sonay Kartal defeated 20th seed Jelena Ostapenko (AUT)

Wildcards Hannah Klugman, Harriet Dart, and Mika Stojsavljevic were defeated but will turn their focus to the doubles in a few days’ time!
The heat continues into Day 2 but unfortunately the day was less successful for the British wildcards:
- Clara Tauson (DEN) defeated Heather Watson in a closely fought 3-set battle
- Catherine McNally (USA) defeated Jodie Burrage
- Yuliia Starodubtseva (UKR) defeated Francesca Jones
